A room with a view

A room with a view

Our very first morning in Rwanda started with a breakfast with a view. We all wondered how the view we had last night, would look like in the morning, and it didn’t disappoint us at all. After breakfast it was time to start our journey to Ruhondo, which was a 3 hour bus ride away. But we didn’t leave before taking a group picture with our lovely colleagues from the ticketing office in Kigali.

The drive we had towards Ruhondo can easily be described in one word: scenic. The landscapes we drove through were simply stunning and then we didn’t see our destination yet… Herman, one of the organizers of Bike For Africa, told us yesterday we would spend the night in one of the most beautiful places on earth. And we can’t agree more with him now we’ve witnessed it with our own eyes. The ″Foyers de Charité Remera-Ruhondo” has a unique location overlooking the Ruhondo Lake and it’s beautiful little islands. And as if that wasn’t enough, it also offers stunning views of the National Volcanoes Park.

Of course we’re not only here to enjoy the view, we’re here to bike! Although we didn’t have an official stage on the planning yet, we did go for a small warm-up tour. Everyone enjoyed the first kilometres at their own pace, and in great weather conditions. Not too cold, not too hot and most of all: no rain!

Except for the first flat tire of Bike for Africa 2020, after just a few kilometres, today’s ride was a great start of our biking adventure in Rwanda and we cannot wait to have the official start tomorrow morning. It will be hard to leave the magnificent views behind, but we’re sure we’ll see lots of other beautiful pieces of Rwanda in the coming days.
